Self-Study Class
Troop 37 has used resources from Edmond Historical Society to complete the Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge through self-study and independent activities.
You can purchase their kit containing education materials, videos, and response worksheets at their website.
The standard kit includes PDF and PowerPoint materials.
- For scouts using Chromebooks issued by school, you will be able to view the material but you will not be able to edit and save the PDF files (doesn't work using the PDF plug-in for Chrome and you cannot install Adobe).
- In that case, you will need to use the Google Doc in Step 5 for your responses.
- If you are using your own computer with Adobe, you may be able to edit directly in the presentation you download in Step 4..
- TEST SAVING YOUR EDITS at the very beginning so you don't risk losing your work.
You can connect on Scoutbook with one of these merit badge counselors. They will approve your merit badge requirements electronically in Scoutbook.
- Richelle Mitchem, BSA ID 12666760: Scout Programs Coordinator
- Anna Studstill, BSA ID 13626944
- Michelle Hayes, BSA ID 13629105
Step 1: Purchase your kit from Edmond Historical Society.
Step 2: You will receive a long email and zip file. It is possible they have updated materials. You can compare to what is listed here.
Step 3: Have a parent go into Scoutbook, select the Scout, and add the merit badge and then invite one of the counselors above to be your counselor.
Step 4: Download the Emergency Preparedness Presentation. This will take you to a dropbox link. You do not have to create an account, just download the file. This is the presentation you will walk through, view the video links and use as a reference to answer questions. It will also refer you to the supporting PDFs listed below.
Step 5: Make a copy of the Google doc Emergency Preparedness Workbook and save to your Google drive. Be sure to RENAME the file and include your name and Troop37 in the filename (ex: John Doe Troop37 Emergency Preparedness Workbook)
